Is the replacement really "difficult"?

On the repair guide (iPad Mini 2 LTE Front Panel Replacement), is the repair really “difficult”? It seems like it should be pretty easy. What makes it so hard (take a screen off, put a new one on)?

If it helps, I would buy this part (iPad mini 1/2 Screen Digitizer)

I wouldn’t say its very difficult personally, but it can be if you haven’t done it before. Make sure that you are opening it up from the correct side and don’t tear the cable as you open it up. Use plenty of heat and playing cards or picks, and make sure there aren’t any bends or breaks in the casing before laying down the new screen or it won’t fit quite right.

Hope that helps!

Do I need to transfer the camera or home button over to the new screen? Or unscrew the LCD?

You will need to unscrew the LCD to access the cables underneath. The camera will stay in place, but you will have to transfer the old home button over to the new screen.

What makes iPads in general a pain to repair is the glue and the home button, especially models with TouchID. Thankfully these ones don’t use it so if you tear the button, it’s not the end of the world. Use plenty of heat and be patient. Avoid touching the LCD with your bare hands. It’s harmless if you do touch it, it’s just a bit of a pain to clean if you do. Use actenone and a Q-tip to clean off any adhesive residue from the frame once you get the old screen off. It’ll make sure the new screen stays put! You can also “Frankenstein” the device to test the new digitizer before you glue the new screen down.
