What is the model number of the dvd player?
Does the dvd player switch off, does the TV just switch inputs from the input that the player is connected to or is it that there is just no picture on the TV?
Have you tried a different dvd disc?
What is the make and model number of the TV that the dvd player is connected to?
Have you tried a different connection type between the player and the TV? Since you haven't stated the model number I'm guessing that there are only a few options for this i.e. Composite video, Component video, S-Video
