MacBook Pro heating up

Hey everyone,

I bought Macbook pro 2017 function keys for programming and daily use.

I noticed when I’m scrolling some page, macbook temperature (CPU Proximity according to iStats) gets over 60C even 67 in some cases (this also happens when I’m watching video), and CPU Core 1 or CPU Core 2 can go over 90C.

Bottom part of top case remains cool but the middle of top (right below “MacBook Pro”) is very hot and bottom of macbook is hot.

My question is should it be this hot in these cases, because I’m not running anything heavy (video editing program, node, etc..), everytime it get that hot and temp goes over 65C I have to stop all my work because I’m afraid it will damage hardware.

EDIT:

Boy that's not that hot!! I had one in that I could fry an egg on it. Sadly, it quickly went up in a puff of smoke!

Seriously, You need to stop using your system as you are risk killing it!

Download this great app TG-Pro it will allow you to monitor your systems thermals as well as boost it when it gets high (Turbo).

Even still, you need to do some maintenance! First clean off at least 1/4 of your drive as when you run it when its to full you force the system to move blocks around so less altered blocks are swapped for more worn blocks (wear leveling) but the amount of free space for the drive controller to work with then becomes a problem. To add to it when you need more RAM than your system has it uses Virtual RAM, this then stresses your drive as well.

Next, your system may need a dust cleaning. Do you use your system in dusty areas or where pet fur or other fibrous material is? If you do then I would clean it.

The next three are related on your usage:

  • You may be running to many windows or running to many apps concurrently which is stressing your systems resources.
  • You may have malware or other behind the scenes apps running which is sapping your resources. I do recommend running a good anti-malware and antivirus apps to clean out any and monitor things.
  • Monitor Activity Monitor, see whats consuming resources.

Hey, thanks for the answer.

My SSD is 256GB and I have 190GB free so I don't think that could be a problem.

Also few days ago I went to authorized service and they changed top case(battery, keyboard and touchpad) so most likely they cleaned dust if there were any.

I would also like to mention thatI'm using it on flat wooden table and nothing is around it.

So you are saying to me it is okay for macbook to be hot in the parts I mentioned in my questions?

@mirzonidev - No I'm not saying that! What I'm saying is you have a problem which you haven't isolated out what is the cause. Did you install TG Pro? If you did when the system is hot take a snapshot of the apps main window (you'll likely need to stretch it out a bit so everything shows). Post it here so we can see Adding images to an existing question

@danj Hey, I just posted snapshot from TG Pro. Can you take a look? Thanks

Let’s examine it for a leaking heat sink. The heat sink can leak it fluid, usually from the crimped ends. See step #13 od this tear down and look for a small greasy looking stain where it might have dripped out. If you find the stain, replace the heat sink.
