Hi,
Some TVs have a shared component video (3 RCA) and composite video (1 RCA) input. If you connect the DVD with composite to the input when it is set for component you get a black & white picture. There will be a place to change to composite in the TV menu if this is the problem.

What type of connection to the TV are you using, HDMI, Component video (red/blue/green + red/white RCA cables) or Composite video (yellow + red/white RCA cables)?
