Water Damage no backlight and power button not working

Recently took a swim with my iphone 3gs and afterwards I couldn't turn it off so I took it apart and unconnected everything. Did the rice trick and placed it in a dessicator. After two days plugged the phone back and pc and mac can detect the phone. The only problem is that there is no backlight and also the power button won't turn on. When plugged in I can hear it press button, did a system restore and can only place emergency call. Need to jailbreak and bring it through DFU mode. Any suggestions what I can do to work on this problem?

edit: Thanks for all your help, I cleaned it in Isopropyl and was able to get the power button working again. The screen is still dark and I've noticed that the home button is not working''. I plan to open up the casing surrounding the logic board to see the damage. Anything other suggestions for me to do to check up on the backlight and power button?

The first thing I would do is to follow the ifixit guide for liquid clean up.

Your backlight coil may have burned out or the LCD is damaged. Replace/test with a new/working LCD to determine which it is. OR.. you could have corrosion on your LCD connector and this means you need to touch up the solder joint. If it is your backlight coil, then that needs to be desoldered and a new one soldered on. Not a simple task, and I would leave that up to someone that has done it before.

As far as the power button goes, you would need to see if there is any corrosion, and clean that up first. Second step would be change the audiojack/power button ribbon or test with a working one. There should be a DIY for changing the ribbon on here I believe. Do a search, or it may be on youtube.
