repeated YLOD on older ps3.
My console YLOD and I repaired it as per the instructions, but it only worked for a few days.I fixed it again and again it YLOD. Is this common and is there a fix for this or should I give up on the machine?
Is this a good question?

I have fixed my playstation 3 for a third time . This time I couldn't find the ceramic thermal compound and used a silicone compound. It worked but now the cooling fan kicks on almost immediately and revs up to its top speed , which is faster and louder than expected.

If anyone else is going thru this, don't give up on your machine. I had to repair mine seven times but it seems to be sticking this time. It's been working for two months with no problems.

I went through the guide recently to the letter and was disappointed when I turned it back on the first time and it red lighted again. I broke it back down again today and went back through it and found that somehow my x-clamp screws had loosened up. I tightened them down farther and put system back together. With fingers crossed, the power button came on and no loud blowing fan or red light yet. So, for the time being my system is back up and running. Now, time to try it out on my xbox 360.
