MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2013), board issue. help please

Hi there,

I have a friend who had the “Service Battery” warning come up for him a few months ago, and instead of taking it in to be serviced, he waited until the device fully shut down before looking into the issue. the battery replacement doesn’t work. The fuse on the F7140 is testing at 8.6V on both sides, so it is still intact. does anyone have a good guide on how to troubleshoot this problem?

I have the schematic, the board diagram, and the soldering skills to do this repair. if anyone could help, I would appreciate it.

Thankyou

Answer this question I have this problem too

@phonesandbones with the MBA on what voltages do you get on the left and right outer contacts of the battery connector?

by

@oldturkey03 the voltage is reading at 7.85V

by

@phonesandbones you should get about the same on the battery connector than what you get on the fuse. . Since you have the schematic etc. I would check PP3V42_G3H PPVBAT_G3H_CHGR_R and PP5V1_CHGR_VDD Let's see if that shows proper voltages

by

@oldturkey03

PP3V42_G3H; 3.44V

PPVBAT_G3H_CHGR_R; 8.41V

PP5V1_CHGR_VDD; 5.05V

everything appears to be in tolerance.

We don’t go that deep here with our guides.

I would recommend you find your way to Louis Rossmann’s YouTube vids He’s a bit crass so be warned. He is quite good in his diagnostic process. Search for the MacBook Air vids.
