Will not start on low speeds

My 32 year old KitchenAid Mixer Model K45SS (no WH at the end) will not start until I move the speed lever to at least 5 (that gets messy!). I can then move the lever back to the lower speeds and it will work fine.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

User Manual which contains information on toll free phone number for USA only (probably only for information on nearest service center and after 32 years more than likely out of date)

That and done, your unit needs servicing. If doing the repairs yourself, open up the unit and do a visual inspection of the speed switch along with continuity and voltage testing using a multimeter. More than likely it will need replacing.

Replace the Speed Control. Here’s the part:

KitchenAid Speed Control WPW10119326

This part fits model K45SS

Here’s a video on how to do it.

My KitchenAid Model No K45SSWH stoped will It was working, when I open the back play I found a loose pice that look as a square U with a ceramic cylinder. I imagine that I have to replace the control plate and find if I need that pice? Please let me know what part to buy
