Following Battery Replacement only Powers on with mains plug

I've replaced my iphone 3GS battery.

After replacement I plugged it in to charge......nothing happened. So took unit appart a couple of times to check all connections.

The realised I wasnt using a apple mains to usb (but didn't think should matter). Tried the apple power adapter and unit boots!

But once booted it stays in SOS mode only & asks for a itunes connection. Then after a couple of mins reboots. It doesn't look like my battey it charging. it sits at 86%

It will not turn on when connected to a computer, so cannot be restored with itunes.

Duff battery?

You should plug in your iPhone in the charger and wait for up to half an hour. I have experienced that the new battery is completetly flat and just needs some time to get juice. Let us know if it does not wake up after some time.

Thanks asle

I've had it in for at least one hour. To no avial,

Battery Percentage seems to be jumping around seen it at 99& now 88%- perhaps more time to trickle some power into the battery, if the power management is confused.

If I press the 'i' button my IMEI/ICCID are unknow. Phone keeps rebooting. Requesting itunes, will not work plugged into a computer.

Contemplating a bricked iphone.

nope, probably not bricked, just stupid battery and iphone issues. Try putting the old battery back in to check that phone is ok. if it is ok, then order a different battery. You won't get imei etc if the battery is too dead to power the phone, similarly itunes can't recognise because of the lack of power to send info to your pc.

thanks! lets hope.

The old battery took some force to come out, I didn't care to keep it in tact, so bent/cabling damaged. I don't think I'll risk it just in case.

I've ordered a second battery from another seller, taking note of the APN number also. I'm in europe so couldn't easily order a trusty ifixit unit without paying import :-(

I'll report back! thanks

Good news....

New battery works! Slightly worrying I've now managed to take it apart about 4-5 times and put it together. But appears ok.

I damaged the tab a little from cable 3. Silly of me I rushed a little, and didn't have much light but I was trying to flip the whole thing :-(

Snapped a little bit of plastic on the side.

Maybe a closer shot should be in the guide picture? Or I shouldn't rush :-) Its not all that clear how it should work. I also thought for a moment I had push/pull only model. (europe). All seems ok, earpiece and proximity sensor work.
