Problems with startup and speakers

I have a Powerbook G3 Wallstreet 233mhz with varying startup problems. Once I plug in the AC adapter, the fans spin very loud and the green light illuminates for a couple seconds. After that the computer becomes silent. When I press the power button, both speakers emit a buzzing/chirping sound and the system starts up. The buzzing/chirping sound continues as long as the computer is on. Sometimes the computer will get to the screen that says "Mac OS 9.2" and then display an error message with a bomb and it will say "A system error occured. Please restart your computer." I have already tried reseating the processor card and examining the hard drive. Any help is appreciated.

Update

I can't believe it! I let the Powerbook G3 sit overnight without the battery or AC adapter plugged in and it works wonderfully again! Thanks everyone.

Coconut battery has an older version that will work with 10.2. You might give it a try to check the condition of your battery. The only way I know to get it is to download the new version and try to run it. It will then give you a link to the older version: http://www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutba...

Try starting up from your system installation disk by inserting the disk and restarting holding down the "C" key. If it starts go to utilities and see if you can repair the hard drive. Let us know what works, thanks.
