Broken hinge; screen is wobbly, and screen only sometimes works

The laptop (mid 2012 pro retina) made a loud ‘cracking’ noise one day, and the hinge on the left side broke, disconnecting the screen from the body. Anyway, the screen is generally black, but if you tinker the exact positioning of the screen it will turn on, though sometimes flicker like a 90s television set. It was like this for a couple weeks, and I didn’t have a chance to repair it, but alas, now I can’t get it to flicker on at all. So 2 questions, I suppose:

1. Is there anyway I can more immediately get the screen working? I’m guessing it’s a question of contact between two points or something, surely that’s repairable? I’m willing to take it apart. Looking at replacement prices, it seems worth the gamble.
2. If that’s reparable, what to do about the hinges? Would I need a whole new screen to ‘put’ the two pieces back together?

Anyway, strange question, maybe, but thanks for any and all responses.

For instance, when the screen was sort-of working, sometimes I’d put the left side of the screen (where it is unhinged) on top of the lower body, and for some reason the screen would turn on. If I put it ‘back’ to where it would droop and touch the tabletop, it would turn off. Or sometimes the opposite. Sometimes putting a small book or pamphlet under the left side of the lower body, then leaving the screen to droop but raising the lower body would cause the screen to work. It’s all very odd.
