iPod will not charge and is not recognized by Itunes

i have an ipod touch 4th gen, and it does not charge.  it is strange to me though because it plugs into speakers through the charging port and works fine, but it does not stay on.  then when i try to charge it, it shows the "its dead" charging symbol, so it is charging. but then when it turns back on, it does not continue charging

i have also used several different cables in case it was a cable issue; i even bought a new one. but that did not help

Have you checked the 30-pin connector (where you plug the cable)? Make sure it’s clean and there are no broken or bent pins.
