Model A1652 motherboard failed

1 1\2 yr of minimal use, shut down with half battery life, plugged in, screen lights up, logo appears, dies again. Stuck in this loop, approximately 14 seconds off/8 seconds on. Took to apple store, did there in store diagnostics, they said it has a hardware issue and it may be that the motherboard has failed. Out of warranty, offered me the same model $599, 90 day warranty only with no option for extended warranty. Any ideas what is the best option to do with this machine beyond recycling it. Can it be opened up and fixed economically? Or would I be better off buying a non apple less expensive tablet?
