Home Button Not Working - Which Route to Take?

My wife’s iPhone 6 is having some issues with the Home Button. Currently, when pressed, nothing happens. The Touch ID is not working as well. The screen is fine and no water damage.

After reviewing a lot of the questions surrounding the Home Button, it looks like if I replace it the Touch ID won’t work and there is a possibility of the Error Code: 53.

I’ve seen some answers say to replace the Home Button and the Flex Cable, some just say Flex Cable, then some have said to replace the LCD Shield Plate w/ Sticker & Home Cable. Since a lot of these topics have been since 2014, I’m curious if there is a definite way to get the Home Button working again w/ the Touch ID.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Have you tried removing the Touch ID and installing it again?

Error 53 is luckily history for long time now. If you replace your home button you will lose touch ID but clicking will still work as expected. If you take your phone to Apple for a screen repair they’ll fix the touch ID too, but you’ll have to pay a nice bill..at today’s market conditions close to the iPhone residual value. It’s more an economical choice than anything else. You can still try making a backup and do a factory restore to rule out possible software glitches. You may also open the iPhone and inspect that everything looks fine, reseat connectors in place and even replace the screen metal shield plate with home button cable attached..if you don’t try you will never know what’s wrong..try and error is the only possible approach but will cost you time and spares.
