Printing Issue to HP DeskJet 3755

have a MacBook Pro with an HP 3655 DeskJet printer. Have been using them in combo for 2 years. Just this past week a problem developed and I cannot resolve it. I have the laptop connected to the printer with a cable as always has been. It will not print. The printer says there is an ink problem but there is not. The MacBookPro says ink levels are unable to read. Is this a known issue?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Try changing out the ethernet cable first. These actually fail and give false readings.

Actually it is not connected to an ethernet cable...the printer is connected directly to the MacBook Pro via a USB printer cable. Regardless, I guess checking that cable might be a good idea.

Sorry, I was thinking about a network printer, But testing the USB cable certainly won't hurt.
