iMac crashed, hard drive data is all I want

the number is 2834, it wont boot up, all I want is the data on it, can I open it up, do I need a cutting wheel? once I pull the HD can i then use the universal adaptor and pull he pics off? Ive got private ones on there, should I just pay someone t pull the HD?

it stopped powering up, I took it in they said its not power supply maybe logic board, I took it home I just want the pics I don’t care if I destroy the computer

You just want the data and not this machine to be up and running again? What a waste! As Dan said, if you could provide us more information on how this system came to be like this we can hopefully get your iMac up and running again.

they told me a logic board was $700 plus labor, so figured better to wait for the new iMac which is taking forever

Yes! You do need the special pizza cutter to get the display off & replacement tapes [linked product missing or disabled: IF174-005].

Here’s the IFIXIT guide you’ll need to follow iMac Intel 27" Retina 5K Display Hard Drive Replacement Are you sure your system has a HDD Vs a Fusion Drive? And yes, the Universal Drive Adapter will allow you access to the drive as long as the drive its self doesn’t have a problem.

But, before we go down this path can you tell us a bit more on what happened. Maybe we can get your system going again.
