Battery Replaced per Instructions, Phone screen may have broken

Tips/tricks appreciated.

-I replaced the battery, but now the screen is/remains black. I have no evidence it is turning on (no noises/vibrate/etc). It’s been “charging” for an hour now, but no change, just a blank, black screen.

-I got an Ifixit battery and followed the guides (while looking online quickly for some notes). The only thing I did not do is remove the screen, I rubber-banded it to a box and just kept it up at a 90* angle while working. Does it sound like the screen/connectors got damaged?

-I also had a very hard time removing the previous battery and had to pry it out, but it does not seem like I had hit anything or bent anything while doing this. Had to use a hair dryer to loosen the adhesive, so any created some static electricity and damaged something? (I closed the phone for this part) However, the battery definitely got bent and it probably wouldn’t be a good idea to plug it in again.

-Additional information below with answers.

Note, I think I can confirm there is power now. I held it up to listen for noise while trying to boot, and I noticed the phone making a VERY quiet noise similar to old noises from the Dial-up Ages of internet (I had never heard this before). No idea if this is a good or bad sign. Might mean I wasn't careful enough with my screen. :(

UPDATE: Brought my phone into a repair shop because I couldn’t wait for a new part to ship.

The ifixit battery was bad, and that’s why my phone was so unresponsive. No damage to the internal parts of the phone. It was not as bad as it seemed @arbaman.

I had been too rough and damaged the logic board connector to the screen.

Moral, do not skip the steps to remove the screen, but per other peoples comments throughout the forum, keep track of your screws.

I’d recommend trying to remove the upper shield covering the cables connectors and reconnect cables to the logic board. If you removed battery with screen in place there’s a chance connectors moved out of place, hopefully not damaged but that’s a possibility too. If you have a PC connect the iPhone to it with iTunes open, it will get recognized if it’s booting fine.

-So I plugged it into my computer and it at least vibrated. Nothing else has provided a reaction from the phone.

-Also reopened, removed screen connectors and plugged them back in, no effect.

@mainmeister Not a very good news though, when plugged into a PC with iTunes open it should be recognized and show up and you should see a charging sign on screen or get reboots even with a faulty battery. Double check lightning connecting cable to the logic board, hope that one got misplaced somehow and nothing more serious. Check also the narrow space between battery connector and metal shield, there's a row of little components that might get dislodged when disconnecting battery..see there are no empty shiny solder pads and the components are firm, without putting too much strenght.

Well, had a friend call me, so it seems the battery install was fine.

I must have damaged the connector(s) to the screen, but it also seems like the volume is not working, if that gives someone with more experience a clue that I damaged something, please let me know. I don't want someone else to make the same mistake I did.

@mainmeister There isn't much to speculate here, screen has to be removed as flat cables connecting it to the logic board are delicate and can get broken, the guide is well done and that step is clearly requested to proceed with battery replacement.Deciding not to remove the screen was a mistake that requested its toll. Volume buttons flat cable runs under the battery, that can be seen from the guide too in the first picture and you would have gotten a hint of that if you had removed the upper shield. Luckily the phone seems to be still working fine and probably volume button cable and screen replacements will bring it back to life. Unfortunately volume button cable replacement is the most difficult part replacement on a 5s.
