Replace broken logic board with a newer one?

I took my late 2012 (A1419 EMC 2546) iMac to get serviced at the Apple Store and they diagnosed it as a logic board replacement at about a $600 cost.

Obviously it’s not worth that much money, but it would be worth attempting to replace the logic board myself. Ifixit does not have the logic board for my specific machine in stock. Are there other similar generation logic boards that would fit inside my machine? I’m thinking the late 2013 might have a compatible board. (A419 EMC 2639)

Anyone know?

Apple's getting some bad news stories about their diagnostics then recommending you buy a new machine.

How about letting us give a shot at the diagnostics since we have nothing to gain from leading you astray?

Please tell us your systems.

The 2012 & 2013 boards do look like they are interchangeable. I’m not sure its worth it though, depending on which model you have the jump to the next series may not give you much of an improvement.
