Frigidaire side by side Freezer and Fridge not cooling

My Frigidaire Freezer (high end 12 years old) isn’t cooling. Fridge is 45 (should be 38), Freezer is 41 (should be waay cooler than 32) measured by thermocouple on my multi-meter. The freezer fan is coming on. The condenser coil fan is coming on when needed. The compressor comes on, however it only stays on for a few seconds, then shuts off. It won’t keep going…

There are lots of reasons for it not to cool but I think the first thing to check in your case is the (drum roll):

Start Relay

The start relay works in conjunction with the start winding to start the compressor. If the start relay is defective, the compressor may sometimes fail to run or may not run at all. As a result, the refrigerator will not be cold enough. To determine if the start relay is defective, use a multimeter to test it for continuity between the run and start terminal sockets. If the start relay does not have continuity between the run and start terminal sockets, replace it. In addition, if the start relay has a burnt odor, replace it.

It’s a cheap part if that doesn’t do it we can go into the multiple other possibilities.

First thing you do is pull out your refrigerator and clean all the dirt out from behind it.

Then you take the back off the rear lower part of the fridge and clean all the dirt out around the coils.

And vacuum all the dirt as you carefully brush the coils..

You should do this this about every two years, or more if you have pets.,

IF YOU DO THIS your refrigerator will last 20 to 30 YEARS .

I have only bought 3 refrigerators in 60 years !
