Pulling off the cable of the DVD Fan?

Hi!

I replaced the superdrive with an SSD.

Now the fan for the superdrive is working to much. The SSD is cool enough I think and the fan makes to much noise.

When I disconnect the fan cable, could that cause any problems? Maybe the iMac does not start, other hardware is too hot...

Thank You for advice

This model was not meant to be user upgradable except for the RAM. Read this over for solutions: Here's an excellent article on upgrading your 27" 2009. It also has links to compatible drives: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/im...

EDIT - fixed link :-)

I did NOT upgrade the hard drive - I replaced the superdrive with an SSD. The termal sensor of the superdrive is seperat, I put it with a piece of tape on the SSD.

The link is dead...

But thanks for reply - nobody else did :D

If the fan is still running too hi after moving the sensor then either the sensor is damaged, not plugged in correctly, or the SSD is in fact running HOTTER than the OOD is expected to. Can you measure the SSD temperature? Do you have a temp utility like iStat to see what the ODD temp sensor is reporting?

the sensor is placed correctly i think.

the temperature is normally around 45 degrees.

when i watch a full HD movie on the iMac, the fan spins around 1700 RPM. but when I'm ready with watching, the fan is also spinning.

before i replaced the superdrive with the ssd, i did not have this problem. when watching a movie, the fan goes up, but afterwards it goes down.
