Cell phone freezes unless held at low temperatures

My phone started freezing (often with some graphical corruption) yesterday. It then starts boot looping, freezing during boot, etc.

I’m finding I can get further if the phone is colder. e.g.

* room temperature during boot loops: Phone will hard lock within ~15 s (during google animation)

  • leave phone off for a few minutes - try again at room temperature. Phone hard locks rather early - but gets as far as adb working (I can see adb logcat)
  • Take phone outside (55 deg F) - place on cold ground. Able to boot up. Froze after 1 minute of use
  • Keep phone on a piece of ice. Has stayed usable for the last 20 minutes

Obviously, I need to use my phone when I don’t have a pack of ice around. Is there anyway to fix this or am I probably experiencing some heat related hardware failure and need to get a new phone?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?
