I need to restore my iphone because cydia is not working anymore and when i do shift restore and choose my ipsw itunes always says error 3194 how do i fix this?

One reason for Error 3194 is when your "Hosts" file blocks Apple from signing your firmware. Depending on what you are trying to restore to, and how you are trying to restore. If you want Apple to sign your firmware you will need your Hosts file let Apple sign it. If you want to sign it yourself and you have the SHSH to sign the firmware, then use TinyUmbrella to help you sign the firmware. If you want to Unlock your iPhone you will most likely need a Custom Firmware and possibly TinyUmbrella to help you depending on the circumstance.

do you think you could walk me through how to do this im just trying to upgrade from 4.1 to 4.2.1
Well since you are blocking Apple anyway so you can use TinyUmbrella to help you. Download TinyUmbrella and read the instructions to Run the "Start TSS Server". If you want Apple to sign your firmware 4.2.1 then you need to fix your Hosts file and delete the lines with gs.apple.com and the numbers in those lines too. But if you have the iPAD baseband Apple will still give you 1015 error. If you have iPAD baseband you will need to use Custom Firmware. Because you don't give all your information it is difficult to help you. The best option for you is Custom Firmware 4.2.1 and TinyUmbrella which I already told you.
i got the custom firmware now what is it that i have to do with tiny umbrella?
Download TinyUmbrella, open TinyUmbrella, click save SHSH, when done if you have the SHSH for your firmware, real easy if you are going to 4.2.1 because everyone has that one, then click Start TSS Server, then open iTunes, shift click your Custom Firmware, if any errors TinyUmbrella has Exit Recovery button. You are done.
after it restores and reboots do i stop tss server?
