iPhone 7 Plus, Voice really quiet when talking on the phone

I fixed a 7 Plus for a customer the other week and he told me about how people were unable to hear him very well when talking on his phone.

I had him call me and I couldn’t even hear his voice at all.

I was going to replace his ear speaker but I accidentally grabbed a 7g ear speaker from my supplies. I am about to meet up with him again and put a different ear speaker in.

My question is.. Will that fix the problem?

I kind of told him already that it could be another issue. Are there mic’s in the charging port that I’m not aware of?

My boss was actually saying that happening is an issue with iPhone 7 Plus’s specifically.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

If I remember correctly the iPhone 7s have two microphones on the charging port.

The issue your customer is having is that the main microphone does not appear to be working at all during calls.

Replacing the earpiece is for when the customer can't hear others during calls. If he is having issues with both then it's probably the audio chip.

To fix that it requires microsoldering including adding the jumper wire to the weak pad / connection under audio IC. (Replacing is not required but is quicker than reballing chip to put back on)

It could be just the microphone filter near the charging port just needs cleaning from the outside of the phone.

Also check if proximity sensor works as people can press mute on accident during calls when they put the phone next to their ear.

Okay so it’s most likely the mic’s at the charging port? I was thinking maybe dirt caked up on the outside of the phone but there didn’t appear to be any when I checked.

You think replacing his charging port is the best bet? It seems like he’s only having issues with other people hearing him.

Yeah if it's just quiet, funnily enough I have managed to get a quiet microphone loud again just by removing it from it's seated place and putting it back into its spot again.

Oh wow, haha.

I told the dude I had to take out the charging port most likely and he just stopped replying so no worries anymore, ty Ben.
