Is the iPhone X Display compatible with the iPhone XS?

I figured out this is a big question for the repair community, no one yet answered.

Is the iPhone X display compatible with the iPhone XS? On paper they look the same. They even have the same number of pins in both connectors. But there is still no confirmation of anyone who has tried it.

I hope someone has an answer for this.

Gee! The phone was just released. No one is trying shuffle games with the parts yet. Even still it will likely be a good year before you could even get your hands on a display.

So far Apple has not made displays interchangeable on any of its phones so I doubt this is even possible.

its just the clips that hold the screen in they are in different locations

by

The x screen will not work perfectly with the xs phone. The xs screen will work 100% with the x phone. They are backwards compatible but not forward compatible. The top right clip on the screen and the bottom two clips on the side are slightly misaligned but could be trimmed off.

Would you happen to have a pic of what your talking about sorry I just do better seeing it then reading it

Well, the IFIXIT team just took apart the Xs Max and they made a comment the face facing camera is not mounted on the display like the older models so I guess that answers the question No!

I can confirm it works fine, Just a difference in the metal clips down either side of the screen frame, So no good for replacement, But handy for data retrieval etc

Just to give my experience, today i grab a X screen as customer told me is a X. I test lcd everything works, i go to close it and it won’t fit due snaps. After verify the iPhone is a XS dam, custumer agree to cut all snaps and glue it. It work flawless so far. So X and XS are compatible the only problem is the metal snaps that won’t fit, cut will always solve but you risk in damage it

Just change the frame from the old broken screen onto the new screen. Worked for me.

Only one clip on top speaker left and side clips need to trim a bit and all ok 100%

No, The connector to the motherboard is slightly different, therefore cannot be plugged in.

This is wrong. Tested on A1920, the regular X screen connectors fit, screen works and even touch and Force Touch work. Just one screw and the snaps are placed differently, which is the reason it *won't fit*. By the way, the als programmers work too :)

by

hello Ben

the display and all electronic components are the same, just frame are different

by

Could you just switch the rear shell so the other screen would work

by

This is wrong, the connectors are identical, They even have the same part number on the connector (3d)

I can confirm, it is working perfectly and yes the frame is different so I removed the frame from the old broken XS and fitted it onto the new X screen and now it’s a perfect XS fit.

Be careful...I thought mine was ok (not knowing that I was sent the wrong screen until a few days ago when my iphone X CAUGHT ON FIRE as my husband was holding it in his hands. It melted half the phone. We took it apart to try and save the information on the motherboard and thats when I found out that an XS screen was put on my X model.

by

@barbiebeth not likely to be the display at fault there whatsoever, unless it was a cheap aftermarket LCD panel. To cause an explosion of the level you explained, it’d have to be a battery related issue (hence how I said it could also be caused by a fake aftermarket LCD instead of a proper OLED panel; they draw more voltage)

the Xs screen will turn on and work with the X but it won’t fit in properly and the proxy wont sit flat on the screen.

I’m almost 90% positive that they are same with only difference in frame, like it was on 7 to 8 and 7+ to 8+ screens

like it was to 4 and 4s screens

i just have no xs to confirm it myself

Just because something has the same physical size doesnt mean its compatible.

Samsung and Apple screens could be the same dimensions but wont be compatible with eachother.

I have tried it and I don’t know what’s going on but 3 different x logic boards same brand new xs display. Same flashing white apple logo. I’m not experienced, certified or qualified in any way. But I’ve worked on a lot of apple phones. For personal use. A lot. And I can’t even get the device to restore or update. It does into recovery mode just fine. That’s all I know.

I put an iPhone X screen on XS its compatible plug wise but it does not allow the frame to work. XS has smaller hinges that clip into the side of the phone and also right top hinge is misaligned by a little. Of course apple would only make those changes : )

I ordered an X replacement screen and noticed the one that arrived has tabs. The phone I have (it is an X not XS) doe nor have ANY tabs on the old screen. So I’m only assuming I was sent an XS replacement?

yes it worked for me lol. some guy came with an iPhone x saying it was an iPhone xs and the screen worked lol but the only reason I needed to know that the phone was a X and not a XS was because of the amount of screws on phone speaker.
