New battery needs service

My old battery needed to be replaced soon so I purchased one from I FIXIT. I bought the one that was recommended using their screen options to match my laptop. I replaced the battery & turned on the laptop to make sure it was functioning ok & it was so I turned it off to let the battery fully charge. Now I find the charging is a little erratic with the power meter, it seems to loose power quickly sometimes & now I am getting a Service battery Icon ( notice ) Why would this be with a new battery? Any help would be grateful thank you.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Maybe it just needs a swift kick to start behaving correctly.

Yo can do the following procedures:

  1. "repair the disk permissions" in "disk utility“.
  2. perform a SMC reset as follows:
  3. shut down the computer and connect it to a power source.
  4. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
  5. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
  6. Turn on the computer.

Should the issue persists, you may also need to physically disconnect and reconnect the battery cable on the logic board.

With the free program "CoconutBattery" you can read the status of your battery. There you can see the Design Capacity and the Maximum Charge, if the values vary greatly then the battery is probably defective.

If this does not help or the battery seems to be defective you can contact the iFixit support team by filling out the form at https://eustore.ifixit.com/en/contact/
