Upgrading to newer RAM

I'm not sure this is even possible or worthwhile to do but I thought I would ask.

I maxed out the RAM in my mid 2009 13" MBP several years ago. I also replaced the HD with a 1TB WD drive. I have plenty of space still available on the HD but my MBP is still extremely slow.

Is it possible to purchase RAM that was manufactured more recently to help speed up my MBP?

I appreciate the help.

I have been considering a newer system since this one is 9 years old. It may be better to do it sooner rather than later. Thanks for the reply.

The most this system will support is 8 GB so if you’ve already done that using newer RAM modules won’t really help.

But swapping out your HDD to a SSD will make a large improvement! Faster boot up and running apps.

Keep in mind this system can only go upto El Capitan 10.11.x, and Apple will stop supporting it soon so you do run risks if you do much surfing online as the security updates won’t be coming.

It may make sense to get a newer system

To follow up on Dans excellent advise, get a good "Paid For" anti-virus like Symantec Endpoint Protection or WebRoot.
