Why does my phone not recognize SanDisk dual micro usb stick?

I have a BLU Advance 5.0 that has very little space, so I wanted to use a micro usb stick to download music onto. I got the SanDisk Dual USB Drive 3.0 and my phone doesn't recognize it. It works when plugged into a PC and my phone recognizes chargers/other plug-in stuff. Is the USB stick just not compatible with my phone? What can I do to fix it?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi Clara,

It could be that the Blu Advance 5.0 does not support USB OTG (On The Go), which allows phones to read flash drives. If that's the case, the only way to expand your memory would be through a MicroSD card.

What other stuff have you tried that works with your phone's USB?

I have exactly the same problem. I have a Blu Vivo XL4 and does not recognize the SanDisk Ultra Dual USB 3.0 Drive w/micro. Is there any drivers to install on the phone to make it work? — Hector

Hi @themoist

You may have to connect it via an OTG adapter(example only) so that the phone “knows” it has to switch on power to the USB port to make the USB device work. The USB stick would not have this inbuilt.

Just search online for Blu Advance 5.0 OTG cable to get results for suppliers that suit you.

Here’s an image to show the difference between standard USB wiring and OTG USB wiring which enables the phone to recognize that it needs to supply power to the connected USB device.

Hi @safdar ,

If I understand you correctly, the 32 GB flashdrive doesn't work when connected to the car's entertainment unit but other USB flashdrives do, is this correct?

Are the other flashdrives that still work in the unit also 32 GB or are they less capacity?

If they are of less capacity, have you checked the entertainment unit's user manual to see if it states what capacity USB it supports?

Is the car's entertainment unit the standard unit that came with the car or an aftermarket model?

What is the year, make and model number of the car?

If the entertainment unit is an aftermarket model, what is the make and model number.
