Lost Internet after High Sierra Update to 10.13.5

I had a different MacBook Pro 13” 2.9 Ghz 2012 come in yesterday with an original Apple hard drive.  It had an APP Store update to do so I did it and lost the ability to access the internet.  10.13.5 NETWORK SETTINGS SAYS IT IS CONNECTED.  BUT NO GO.  HOOKED UP HARDWIRED Ethernet and it shows green with the same results.  Spent an hour on the phone with Apple, all to no avail.

Does anyone know how to negate an update.

Did you try an NVRAM reset?

Os might not give the chance to do it, but I'd try installing 10.13.4 combo update, no harm in trying. In case you have a thumb drive with any previous 10.13 available you could try to install that and later updating it with 10.13.4 combo.

I did not have the time to fight with this. I took a new SSHD, formatted it externally, installed the system and ran the updates then used Migration Assistant. It runs fine now but really ticks me off that Apple is so lax with what these updates will do to older machines. Seems like Apple has throw all the customer with pre-retina machines under the bus and their only advice is to buy a newer machine.

Sad but true. I wouldn't complain if Apple would still make upgradable and serviceable machines, but today's reality is so different..

Their new wave of glued and soldered components and 1mm thick glued screens, when you see unused screws slots in their own lids, makes me think Apple is fighting a deliberate war against Mac users and repairers and this makes me think corporations greed is one of today's worst evils we are seeing. Pre retina machines are probably seen like smoke in the eyes..still kicking after 6/7 years use..a serious hazard to next quarter's profitability.

@arbaman This is what happens when a company is run, motivated by greed, rather than integrity and serving your customers. This was product that I believed in and dedicated my life to. It has betrayed the public IMHO.

Hi @mayer

I agree, that some updates, e.g. major updates, can really scr3w ed up the systems. You are right, sometimes due to time, a clean install is viable. I agree, you are not alone on bashing apple nowadays...
