Will not wake from sleep or boot after 10.13.5 update
I have a Apple MacBook Pro 15" A1398 MGXG2LL/A, i7 2.80GHz, 16GB DDR3, 512GB SSD (3832) that after updating to 10.13.5 will not wake from sleep or boot...consistently. I've reset the smc, pram/nvram, did a clean install of 10.13.5, turned off "Put hard disks to sleep when possible", safe boot and the problem still persists. I've been able to get it started a couple of times by unplugging the charger, pressing the power button for 10 sec, plugging in power for 10 sec, but that only worked 2x. Let the battery drain and plug in power. The last time I had to physically disconnect the battery to get it to start. Am I a unique snowflake or is this a known issue for 10.13.5? I see that this problem seems to pop up with os updates, is there a known fix?
P.S. I replaced the batteries 3 months ago with a kit from Ifixit
Update (06/18/2018)
Even after reverting to 10.13.2 > 10.13.4 combo update I was still having issues with sleep. Then something else happened, when booting the laptop beeped 9 times 3 fast, 3 slow, 3 fast then started up. Corrupted efi, ok, but it booted. The next time I tried to boot it it was stuck just beeping 9x then start chime black screen, beep 9x and repeat. So I programmed a new efi chip, pulled the old efi chip out, soldered in the new chip in, did an internet restore 10.10.5 then an update to 10.13.5 and everything is back to normal. So it looks like something got borked in my original update to 10.13.5. Replacing the efi chip seemed to fix the issue but that's not an easy thing to fix. Ah well, the chip cost $1, progammer $50, already had the soldering station, and a bunch of anxiety for removing/replacing the efi chip (not so bad)...beats replacing the logic board.
Is this a good question?

I've installed 10.13.5 on quite a few systems now and haven't encountered any install issues.

I've installed quite a few 10.13.5 updates as well. Maybe it's coincidence, maybe not. In my research I found a lot of issues similar to this one, update>wake/boot issues.

Where did you see these reports of an issue?

First search, 2nd in the list https://discussions.apple.com/thread/819... They're not hard to find...I don't want this to come off as flippant I really do appreciate your input,

I don't monitor the Apple discussion board as I've found to many posts that have no data to support their conclusions.
Apple also likes to knock people off who know what they are doing (me twice) as well so this just becomes a yelling pit with no solutions or process of diagnostic ;-{
No, you're not being flippant, I asked!
Did you test the Magnet & Hall sensor?
