MacBook completely unresponsive after loud popping sound

Hello,

Yesterday my 2014 MacBook Air suddenly emitted a rather loud popping sound, screen went black and everything shut off.

I can’t get it to turn on at all now, tried the commonly requested keyboard sequences (SMC, etc) but nothing. Not starting chime or fans buzzing, just dead.

The charger was not connected at the time, if I connect it now it shows the little red charging light on the MagSafe as normal. It does seem to respond to SMC resets though as it lights up green then.

I was running some pretty heavy processes when it popped and the fans were working quite loudly.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Hi @gabrielts

It seems the board could have some component damage, You need to open up and inspect.

Hi, yeah I feared as much, afraid I don’t have the tools to get it open currently though. Guess I’ll take it to the shop tomorrow, thanks
