MacBook Pro - Boot-up Problem

I have a Macbook Pro 2012, i7, 256 gb, 8gb ram and for some reason i cant use my laptop properly. It takes about 10 minutes to boot and sometimes it comes up with the cirlce with the slash and then turns of. It used to take only 30 seconds to boot. When i have the chance to log in to my laptop, it lags out and every click i do to do somethings lags the computer out for no reason?

Does anyone have a solution for this?

Which question is the correct one? Sluggish and sometimes won't boot up. Or are these two different systems?

The cable gets damaged as it climbs over the last step and onto the optical drive. The bottom case impacts against it. I used 3M extreme mounting tape on either side of the cable to protect it from impact.

I would use an SATA to USB adapter and the internal drive (removed) and boot from it externally to confirm a defective cable.

Any history such as drop or liquid? If not, likely bad SATA cable or HDD.

No, there isnt any histroy as a drop or liquid. (little drops like dropping just onto a table)

Tho, i read in other forums that you cant update this laptop to the new version of OSX, tho yesterday i pressed free upgrade on the app store, and it started to download. Then i deleted the download as i didnt want to update yet. Also this would be my second time replacing the SATA cable. Would you know why it would be the SATA cable? It wouldn't be the HDD as its a Samsung 256gb evo ssd and it is brand new.
