How tight does the cap on the coolant tank have to be?

I replaced the coolant reservoir tank . The cap snaps on ok but you can still turn it very easily. Not tight enough to make a tight seal? Still loosing a half tank of coolant every 2-3 days.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Usually you have to press it down with the heal for your hand and turn it to lock it place. Do not do it when the engine is hot.

So it looks to be just a simple snap cap, if that is the case. Then it is just a press fit until it snaps over the rim. Coolant should be half between cold and hot mark at rest.

If you are using green coolant, most likely. Then look for coolant traces around reservoir, check all hoses and connections for condition and tightness.

Find your water pump and check that there is no fluid leaks around that area. Does the fluid pool under car overnight? I'd assume it was the water pump or a failing hose.
