upgrading to a SSD

I have 27" Late 2009 iMac.

Can I replace original 1TB HDD with 1TB SSD?

Update (03/24/2018)

My only lingering worry is how to handle temperature sensor for the HDD.

Obviously SSD will not have temperature sensor, so what should I do with the temperature sensor for HDD?

Yes you can do it if you can afford it,

But the 1 tb SSD will be little expensive and a caddy to fit it...

You can buy a smaller ssd and a dvd to hdd caddy and replace the dvd with new ssd (depending on your time)if you are not using the dvd any more...
