Why do the fans go off when my laptop isn't hot?

I recently got a MacBook Air, brand new and I play a lot of games on it and use it for school. I really love this laptop, however, lately the fans have been coming on when the vents are not being covered, the laptop is not overheating and it is not being overworked.

I know this is not supposed to happen, so how do I stop? They randomly come on, usually when I am just surfing the web or doing school work. I usually use a flat surface while using it so the vents aren't blocked and it should be able to breathe.

Help! I'm so worried!

Lets look a bit deeper here, install this app: TG Pro and paste a screen snapshot of the main window so we can see as well.

Don't worry, be happy, it's under warranty. First make sure you have an external backup of your important data. Backup drives are cheap and as soon as you plug it in your Mac will ask if you want to use it as a Time Machine Backup. Don't just yet. Use Disk Utilities to format it Mac OS X journaled. Next install a bootable system on it. Now reboot and select it for a Time Machine Backup. Next do what Dan said and run TGPro on it. If you are close to your warranty running out at the end of owning it for a year, consider taking out an Apple Care two year extended warranty.

Yes, but why is it doing this and how can I stop it?

Could be a number of things, but I wouldn't do anything with it under warranty.

@mayer luckily, I am no longer having this issue after I stopped playing the game on my laptop. As much fun as The Sims is, it's not doing my laptop any good. I'd rather keep my $1000+ laptop than play a $60 game...
