Powering on comes up with tone and white screen

IMac A1311 comes up w tone and white screen then shuts dow

Did not work with a usb stick. After time shows a flashing question mark on a file folder icon

You'll likely need to hold the Option key when you restart your system to gain access to the startup manager.

Hard drive failure was why I wanted you to try an external drive. Hold down the option key when the external is in and you are booting to see if both it and the internal drive are being seen.
