Sudden iMacPower Loss when Scrolling

My mid-2010 iMac (2.8 GHz Intel Core i5, 16GB Ram, ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024 MB) has an intermittent problem where it will suddenly lose power and crash. The common denominator in terms of when this happens seems to be related to graphics-intensive tasks, such as fast scrolling through a lot of image thumbnails in LIghtroom or Bridge, but the other day it happened when I was scrolling horizontally in an Excel spreadsheet. It has also happened once when watching a movie on DVD. Any ideas on what might cause this? Graphics card? Motherboard? Power supply?

Answer this question I have this problem too

How long does it take before it will power up again. This model did not have the GPU issues that the 2011 did. So my thought here is that the part of the PSU that powers the GPU may be failing. Best way to tell is to take a look at the diagnostic LEDs on the logic board when it powers down. #1 should be lit. If #2 is not lit, replace the power supply or examine it for a bad capacitor. If #2 is lit then you are most likely looking at a failing GPU card. Let us know your finding and then we proceed.

Your GPU maybe over heating, I would install a good temp monitoring app like TG Pro so you can see whats happening.

I'm suspecting your thermal paste on the GPU and its RAM has failed. The other possibility the heat pipe has lost its coolant.
