Can I replace/repair micro USB female in my afterglow headset?

I have broken the tongue out of the female end of the micro USB for this headset and I am wondering if I could replace it fairly easily? The headphones still work and it would be a shame if I couldn’t use them with my PS4.

Hi @tbaylucky ,

Here is a link to the ifixit PDP Afterglow Fener guides.

They should help you to gain access to the USB port.

It most probably will be a SMD (surface mounted device) type USB connector, so you'll need SMD soldering expertise and tools to remove and replace the USB connector.

You will also need to source the appropriate USB connector, to ensure that the replacement has the same connection configuration and retaining lugs (if any) as the existing one. Micro USB connectors are readily available on Ebay or Mouser but you'll have to get it right.

If the repair seems too daunting, contact a reputable, professional electronics, mobile phone or laptop repair service and ask for a quote. They should be skilled in the actual replacement of the USB port. It would help if you did decide to do this, that you mention the ifixit guides which will help them to disassemble the headphones easily and therefore speed up the repair.
