I have replaced a few Surface Pro 4 screens before and I used the adhesive best known as "red tape". It comes in all types of widths and is fairly cheap. It creates a strong bond as I have not had any complaints. You can buy something similar and maybe even stronger from iFixit linked below.

What width of tape did you use? I have a surface pro 3 and I need to repair the screen and I'm assuming I could use 2 to 4 mm wide tape

I use two and double up where I need to.

3M 9448A black double coated tape. Its available from amazon. It looks like it may well be the stuff that was originally used on the surface pro. Put it on the screen edges and then VERY CAREFULLY trim the excess off the OUTER EDGE OF THE SCREEN ONLY. If you try to trim the INNER edge next to the LCD you will likely damage the digitizer connections.
