no matter what startup key combos I press it will only go to recovery drive. Disk Utilities says SSD is fine, but when I connect to the internet and try to install from there, it verifies then says error preparing disk. And it also tries to say my install high sierra is damaged and can't be installed.

First Apple has a date test within the OS installers so you do need to make sure the date is correctly set manually or via the internet time server (Hint older versions of OS will need the system back dated to their release window).
Sadly, your system was likely stolen so when the installer runs it won't install the OS.
Best thing to do here is to return it to the seller so they can remove it from their Apple ID or just get your money back.

I'm trying to set the time & date. on pc you enter bios and do all that. except for "single user mode"it will only go into recovery mode. is there a way to change the time in single user mode? or if I posted the boot log could you tell me where the problem is?
In safe mode you still can get into the preferences which is where the Date & Time setting. I don't think thats you issue.

There's nothing showing in the log that explains your issue.

Did you just buy this system used?

Yeah, so I'm just trying to figure it out. I'm self taught on pc in general. single user mode is the only key combo that works. I was hoping to just type some commands in there to get it back on track. any help would be appreciated.
