How can I seal my iPod?

I was replacing the screen on my ipod and accidentally tore some of the rubber around the bezel. Can I seal that rip with a little electrical tape to keep the dust and water out? I don't want to have to remove the screen again and reinstall

I don't think the tape would stay put for long. I'd try a little rubber cement on a toothpick and really get it into the joint. As for keeping water out, the only way I know how to do that is put it in a plastic bag. The number of water damaged iPhones and iPods questions on this site is incredible. It's by far the most common problem and the hardest to answer.

annoying for sure. I asked a friend of mine about the rubber cement and his concern is that it might melt the rest of the rubber. He suggested liquid electrical tape or silicone tape might do the trick.
