My external drive is creating clicking sounds PLS HELP

I’ve had my external drive for a fair long time and this is the first time I’m experiencing this. It was working just fine until I woke up today. I inserted it to the TV (pensonic) last night and watched a movie, It worked well. Then when I woke up I tried inserting it again and the data cannot be accessed although the Usb itself is recognized. I tried inserting it to my laptop and the same happened then I heard clicking sounds coming from it. It is not showing on the devices part of my laptop but I can eject it. And also the light in my external drive is not on.

I don’t know what to do pls help.

That clicking noise is the search head going back and forth trying to read the disk. It usually indicated a drive that has become unreadable. Sometimes this can happen when the disk is still spinning and the drive is moved.

Hi @kellyanderson ,

If there is important data on it that you need and if the data hasn't been backed up elsewhere you 'll have to find a data retrieval service and see if they can get it off the drive for you.

Be aware this is usually a very expensive process.
