The LG G4 was released in the US in early June 2015, as always focusing on high-end specifications and a refined fashion sense that makes it stand out in the premium smartphone market. Each version of the phone will have a different model number based on if it is sold by a carrier or sold by LG as a US Unlocked or International model.

Touch Screen not responding at all

Two days ago my LG G4 had some whiskey spilled over it at a party. The phone seemed to work relatively fine (the touch screen seemed to be a bit unresponsive) the next 2-3 hours or so. We used it to play music which was working fine, notifications and internet connections were fine as well.

However, the next morning the touch screen was not responsive at all. Everything else, again, seems to be working fine - the time and date were accurate, I kept getting notifications and receive calls as I normally would. Howver I would not be answer to answer them since nothing touching anything on the screen did nothing. I put the battery out and let didnt turn it on for 24 hours but nothing changed.

I'm thinking of taking it to a repair shop tommorow, however I have several questions before doing so:

1. In your experience what does the unresponsiveness mean? Is the screen damaged (even though there are no signs of actual damage), or is it just the sensor part?

2. Is there any chance to try to do the repair myself?

3. How much money do you think the repair shop will charge me?

4. Do you believe there's hope for the phone, or even the data in it? (It's quite important)

Hi @play4u ,

First try connecting a USB mouse via an appropriate OTG (on the go) cable to your phone.

As your touchscreen (digitizer) doesn't seem to be working this will allow you to navigate through the phone and let you retrieve your important data before the phone fails further, either by performing a backup of the phone or setting it up so that you can connect it to a computer to download the data.

Next as you know liquids and electronics and electricity are not a good mix.

The liquid causes corrosion and provides circuit paths for the electricity which were not in the phone's operating design and could damage the components.

After you have safeguarded your data do not turn on your phone again and then you need to with the phone turned off, remove the battery as soon as possible from the phone to minimize further damage.''

Then you need to dis-assemble the rest of the phone and clean all the affected parts using Isopropyl Alcohol 90%+ to remove all traces of corrosion. Do not use "rubbing alcohol" as in some cases this is only 70% and is not as effective. If you do check the label to verify the amount

Here is a couple of link that describes the process.

Electronics Water Damage

As always with electronics, especially surface mounted PCBs be gentle when handling and especially when brushing away the corrosion. You do not want to remove any components from the board.

Hopefully after you have done all this the phone might possibly work correctly again.

Here is a link to the ifixit guide(s) for repairing your phone. These are useful as they show how to access the internals of the phone

LG G4 Repair

Here is a link that describes how to replace the LCD screen and digitizer (touchscreen) for your phone. If after cleaning the phone the digitizer still doesn't respond the part is available online. Just search for LG G4 digitizer part for suppliers

If this process seems too daunting, take your phone to a reputable, professional phone repair service and ask for a quote for a repair. If you decide to do this, do it sooner than later.

Hopefully this is of some help
