Why are my headphones making static sounds?

Is there a way to fix it? I'd prefer to keep my controller around rather than purchase another.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi!

Are the static sounds continuous or do they occur only when moving the controller around? Do they still occur if you use the controller plugged in?

by

Yes, thank you! They are continuous. As soon as I plug any headphones in, with or without a mic, it's static-y. I tried switching to using a battery pack, which changed nothing. If I move the headphone jack, it gets better/worse.

Static charge builds up in power box. Unplug for a few minutes and plug back in

Can you advice me why does the headset go off after awhile i use the 3.5 jack but race with a steering wheel

Hi!

I might have a fix for you.

I bought a new pair of headsets(steelseries arctic pro wired). I plugged the headphones in and they worked great. The next time I played, there was this hissing/static sound that didn't change whatever i did. I even tried a different headset just to be sure.

Here is how i fixed the problem. (Headphones must have own volume control!)

Go to settings, devices and connections, accessories, three dots, volume, turn headset volume all the way up and try turning the mic monitoring down. Then turn down the volume on your headsets own control.

Hope this works for

Hey thanks for this tip. I had hissing on my brand new xbox series X controller with my headphones connected via 3.5mm jack - I get hissing unless I turn the headphone volume all the way up to the top two most settings.

Thanks!

This fixed most of the problem, but with my headphones at least, i wasn’t able to use the in-line microphone, when i join any party i’d get kicked immediately cuz all people heard was a loud static. both my series X and Elite 2 controllers were making the hissing with mic monitoring on. and so did my Xbox One\S controllers.

This fixed the horrible overwhelming hiss at 20% mic monitoring, now imagine what people heard when i walked in the party at full blast lol….

My AKG-Tuned Samsung Headphones from my S20 box work flawlessly though… microphone is crystal clear and very little to no hissing even at full mic monitoring…

No idea why this is the case with my urBeats2 but i’m satisfied with at least being able to use them, but they definitely don’t sound as good as they would on my iphone for example.

Hey man! I learned that a static charge is held in the power box if plugged in for a long time. Unplug it for a few minutes and plug back in. I just trying it on my friend headset and it's clear as !&&* now. Good luck.

Power box? I am a mother of a 10-year-old son with autism’s with an Xbox one S, he is having static issues with his headset which is brand new (driving me crazy about sensory overload in ears), turtle 50 X… When you say power box are you meaning the actual Xbox one S, unplug it and plug it back up? Please and thank you

by

Hi Luca. Autism dad here. I have headphones plugged into controller and static was coming from microphone on the headphones. Don't know if your son needs mic but if not it can be turned off in settings so it's just sound coming in from Xbox.

The problem lies with xbox having faulty audio ports in their controllers. They sell tool kits to replace the audio port inside your controller however it voids the warranty. They have seemed to have manufactured them purposely faulty for the continued purchasing of the over priced controllers. We have went through 7 controllers only to have the audio port to static and or go out completely within a few weeks of purchase. I recommend either purchasing an off brand controller or an audio adapter for the controller as this seems to be the only fix I have found so far. I have tried all the troubleshooting it tells you to go through and none of those worked. What did work was an adapter for myself and an off brand controller for my son. If there is a fix out there I would love to know myself.

Could you link the controller and adapter you got? I’m a gamer and haven’t seemed to find the right ones , all had horrible reviews . I have the new Xbox , all new controllers and headsets and seems to be static still.
