itunes not recognizing iPhone

this is the problem i am having,when i plug my iphone into the usb on my computer it just shows the battery charging symbol but does not charge no matter how long you leave it there, also itunes will not recognize the phone as well.i opened the phone to check the battery and it is at 3.63 volts which is enough to charge.also i noticed the home button stopped working as well,does anyone have any suggestions?

sounds like you need to replace the dock connector. you could try cleaning the outer usb port first... often gets pocket lint/dust in which prevents pins from making contact with usb leads. Also check your lead for dirt and damage to pins/flex
