If your system is working you can use Target disk mode to convert your system to emulate a external drive. This will allow you the means to access the files without an adapter. This will work with either a Mac or PC as the system you want to move the files to.

Now the rub! You'll need a AFP to Windows driver if you are trying to access with a Windows system. MS had one and stopped offering it I do remember someone else had one as well.

If you have a network you can use it to transfer your files. Follow this Apple T/N: How to connect with File Sharing on your Mac

We use Helios on our servers, its a bit over the top for what you need they do offer a free trial period.

As for a holder to house the SSD if your system is not working you'll need this one: OWC Envoy Pro Portable, Bus-Powered USB 3.0 Enclosure. For Apple Flash SSDs (June 2013-Current Mac Models). While not cheap you can find them used for half the price on eBay as one people use them they often sell them one the task is done (which you can then do as well).
