When ipod touch 3rd gen is plugged into the computer charged up, all that shows is a picture of the itune logo and usb port. Shows just this screen and does nothing else.

Val, try this Turn off your ipod. Hold the home button while plugging in your ipod. It will tell you to restore it. Do that and it will work again but you will have to re-sync everything so I hope you have your files all backed up. Here is also some more info in how to get the ipod into DFU mode to help you with it DFU mode good luck and let us know how it is going.

Val did anything happen to the iPod? Is it jailbroke? Any recent firmware updates? I am just wondering if there is anything unusual that has happened before you received this error
