You will need to replace the keyboard. Cleaning it will not do anything. However, this machine is very new so finding parts will be very hard.

How long does it take to change the keyboard, about how much money?

I think I have seen these keyboards recently on AliExpress for ~80$USD. Might be able to get lucky with that one.

To the OP. Replacing the keyboards is a huge pain. I am a tech that does motherboard repair and I still don't do them unless I have to. It's just a big pain.

Is there a guide for doing that on this machine?

by

@mayer No sir. A teardown but doesn't show the painful task of lifting the backlight and clipping the 50 or so rivets.

I literally just fixed one of these with a coffee spill, I would not recommend a non-tech replacing this part. A keyboard replacement means you need to change the entire bottom part of your computer (minus the trackpad and logic-board). I was able to find the part at a steep $800 (my cost) not to mention the labor the swap it out. An external keyboard (props to Anna) is the easiest solution for now until the parts become cheaper.

Just out of curiosity, have you tried sticking the keyboard in an ultrasonic cleaner? Probably nothing to lose. Either way, I would suppose the top case would be worth quite a pretty penny on eBay even if the keyboard needs to be changed...

How did you deal with the touch bar?
