What is the compartible SSD for this computer?

What defines the compatible SSD storage for this computer? I read that this any "m.2 sata" disk will fit? I get there are specifiers like 2242 2260 2280, which have to with the size of the disk. What size fits the Macbook Air 2012?

The best drive to get is one thats designed for your system like what OWC Aura 6G and Transcend (JetDrive 520) offer.

Now some people have used an adapter to convert the custom Apple SSD interface so either a mSATA or M.2 SSD could be used. This is one of the few systems that you can do this as the Apple SSD is a variation of mSATA (6.0 Gb/s).

Now the Rub! The quality of the adapter and the size of SSD become the factors of working or not.
