Sound does not work

After performing a clean install of Windows XP SP3 on my newly acquired but used ThinkPad T60 there is no sound. Device manager reports that sound is working properly but I cannpt get any sound. The Audio tab in Control Panel's Sound and Audio Device Properies window show no devices in the Playback and Recording boxes and these boxes are grayed out.

Reinstall your sound driver from device manager ,If don't know how to do it please don't try anything else it might damage other things.Simply call on

Click on Start Button

Go to My Computer and right click on it

Go to manage and then select device manager

Here you can see "Sound and multimedia" something click on it.

Now click on update driver and select online update it will download driver and you will listen your sound.

I would start by updating the drivers for the sound card. Xp is pretty good in finding it for the device manager but may not have the correct driver. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.w... Try to reinstall with the appropriate drivers and let us know how it is progressing. Good luck

Same problem.

Tried your suggestion.

IBM/Lenovo drivers for "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus"

are not recognized when trying to install audio device.

Tried installing Microsoft drivers from Microsoft support site and got the same results.

Please....someone......HELP !

According to Lenovo,

You should perform some steps to check whether Lenovo sound is due to the driver or hardware. Follow the steps below to fix the sound not working Lenovo ThinkPad:

Run windows audio troubleshooter

  • Select the Search icon from the taskbar.
  • Type Troubleshoot.
  • Select Troubleshoot from the list of results.
  • Select Playing Audio and then click on Run the troubleshooter.
  • It will find the issue and try to resolve it.

Verify the volume is set correctly and is not muted

Check the settings in the Taskbar Volume Control and in the appropriate output controls in the Playback Master Volume Control. Also, verify that the device is not muted and is set to a proper level in the Master Volume Control.

  • Check the sound in the taskbar and ensure the device is not muted.
  • Click the speaker icon ( or) on the Microsoft Windows system tray or taskbar to open the Volume control.
  • Move the slider to increase the volume and see if the sound is audible.
  • The volume control may need to be checked for several devices. For example, Windows Media Player application websites like YouTube have their own volume control. Check to see if the volume on any of these devices is muted or low.

Verify sound is going to the correct device

If there are issues hearing sound from speakers or headphones, make sure the sound is going to the correct device.

  • Right-click the Speaker icon.
  • Select Open Sound settings.
  • Under Output, make sure the correct sound device is selected under Choose your output device.

Note: Make sure any external speakers have power.

Set the physical volume controls to an appropriate level

  • For ThinkPad A, G, R, T, X, and Z series systems, there are volume down, volume up, and mute EZ keys, which can be either round or rectangular. You can find them at the top of your keyboard.
  • For older ThinkPad systems, there may be a volume wheel on the side of the unit. Also, the key combination of Fn and Page up or Page down may raise and lower the volume setting.

Set the Windows Default Playback & Recording Audio Device

  • Right-click the Speaker icon.
  • Select Open Sound settings.
  • Under Input, select Device properties.
  • Select Additional device properties under Related Settings and make sure that the microphone is enabled.

Adjust the Microphone volume

  • Right-click the Speaker icon.
  • Select Open Sound settings.
  • Under Input, select Device properties.
  • Select Additional device properties under Related Settings.
  • Click the Levels tab. There will be a mute symbol next to the audio icon if the volume is muted. If there is a mute symbol, click the symbol to unmute, and make sure the volume is set to 50 or higher.

Update drivers from Manufacturer (Support Site) or Microsoft

  • Search for and select Device Manager.
  • Navigate to Sound, video, and game controllers, then right-click Realtek High Definition Audio, Conexant SmartAudio, or IDT High Definition Audio. Select Uninstall.
  • Go to the Search icon, type Control Panel, and then click Programs and Features. On the list of apps, uninstall anything related to Realtek, Conexant, or IDT & Dolby, and then reboot.
  • After the reboot, go to the Lenovo Support site at http://support.lenovo.com to download a new audio driver.
    Note: Go to Lenovo Support Site and select your product first before proceeding to download the driver.

sometimes, you might deal with some errors on your Lenovo pc, sound issues are one of them. Every day, there are few Lenovo users coming online and they are complaining about the sound issue. the audio issue comes due to the several basic reasons. Which I am going to explain here.

Unmute the audio- When you can’t get an audio from your Lenovo pc, you should press the mute key, probably, you have silent the speakers on your laptop, that’s why you won’t hear from your Lenovo laptop.

So you push the unmute button on your keyboard, and then play a video or song.

Check the volume settings- You may have the low volume issue on the Lenovo laptop, so you should increase the volume and then play something.

Use headphones- let’s insert the headphones on your pc and then play something, let’s see if it is working perfectly fine or not? If it is working perfectly, it means there is something wrong with your speaker settings.

Setup the speakers as default- apart from this, sometimes, you may have Lenovo laptop sound not working issue due to the incorrect speaker, so you should choose your speakers as default and then play audio on your pc.
