Should my 5s boot without a screen?

I have an iPhone 5s (A1533) that has the screen torn off at the flex cables. It has a battery and a home button. I can get the phone to boot into dfu mode but it doesn't seem to boot into normal mode. At least if it does iTunes doesn't see it nor does device manager. Just wondering if this is normal or if there may be something else that is wrong with the phone before I buy a new screen for it.

Answer this question I have this problem too

If you still have the screen (even torn off), take it to an Apple Store. They can try replacing it, and if it works you only pay for the screen. If it doesn't work, i believe they'll offer to let you replace the phone out of warranty, but you can decline.

So, -warrantied work and possible working iphone.
